Blue Rev (2022) is one of my favorite spring albums, even though it was released squarely in fall. I’ve been thinking recently about “sturdy” songwriting, like that of Aimee Mann, Good Looks, and Alvvays. It’s hard to explain why these particular structures feel expert, unflappable, but they share an objective listenability.
