Vampire Weekend played the Greek last weekend for a two day run, one of which was a Fathers Day matinee. In all my time working at the Greek, I’ve never had a matinee show, and it had quite a jovial energy. Vampire Weekend is a confusing band to me because they’re frankly too popular for the kind of weird music they make, but seeing the crowd at that show made something click for me: Vampire Weekend is a deeply inoffensive band, suitable for your toddlers (there were many) and grandmas (also many). I think that’s why they sell out and headline—they’re just super neutral. But I love this song, and they played it, and everyone went crazy over the Berkeley line.
