It’s been so long… I have so much to tell you…
Firstly, I reviewed this really excellent Indigo De Souza album for The Line of Best Fit. It’s a real departure from her previous work in tone but not in style; everything signature to her sound remains intact and foundational on All of This Will End (2023).
I saw Y La Bamba this weekend and I think it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It was surely the first show I’ve attended in quite a while that I didn’t wish would end at some point. I never leave a show early, but I do sometimes want it to be over so I can go to sleep. I’m with Jamie Lee Curtis about matinee concerts. Anyways, that’s all beside the point—this live performance of Lucha (2023) was incredible, and I went into it completely blind. Touring is so expensive right now that lots of bands are playing shows with the most minimal setup possible. While the technological advances that have allowed tracks to sound like a full blown band are great, it’s easy to forget why we love live music: watching musicians perform for each other, collaborate in real time. Seeing eight people onstage, hearing three part harmony, watching the two percussionists interact with each other… such a rich experience. Go see this tour!
