Graceland by Paul Simon is one of my personal canon records, a work which soundtracks many different points of my life in totally different ways. We’ve been playing it a lot around the house recently and I’ve been so enjoying the sensation of being tossed back into my own history, while simultaneously finding new meaning in the record as I grow with it. I think a lot about how Lorde used Graceland as a touchstone when she was making Melodrama, a record that does not sound like Paul Simon at first but then sort of does when you think about it. I hope Graceland shows in my work in the same way.
