I am training for a marathon (mid twenties outdoors city type, normal) and this week I bring you some of my favorite tracks from my in-progress race day playlist.
I mourn the dissolution of the Solange-Dev Hynes artist union all the time. Whatever they did here is magic and if I’m hitting a hard spot in a run, I just restart the playlist right back to this song. Recently, there’s been a TikTok sound trending that’s a remix of a new Ravyn Lenae song remixed with the vocal track of this one and I went to listen to the original and realized it really lacked the sauce that “Losing You” imbues.
The bongos in this song are so intoxicating. I love the music video as well, and I think about it the whole time the song is playing, imagining myself running down Sunset Boulevard or whatever, which really helps with feeling interminably bored. When HAIM releases a new record, I’ll probably sign up for another marathon.
This song makes me feel like I’m floating and is the perfect running tempo. There’s also a really good drop in the second half that sends endorphins straight to the dome.
Whenever I’m feeling tired but don’t want to caffeinate myself (let’s face it, I’m overcaffeinated), I just put on EMOTION SIDE B (2016) and my problems are instantaneously solved. Life hack.
Pearly Drops is one of those bands that I know nothing about, have never once researched or seen a picture of, but that I know pretty exclusively makes bangers. I had a running playlist that was based mostly around this song and “party 4 u” by Charli xcx that I called blue music: basically pop songs that feel like an ice blue color to me. Sabrina Carpenter and the Marias are distinctively red/pink pop music. Since developing that theory, I’ve spoken extensively with one of my friends about why certain types of music or instruments sound like certain colors. Neither one of us has synesthesia. Thoughts welcome.
The new Doechii record makes me feel so cheeky! No notes.
I have loved this song forever. I don’t really enjoy house music, but this song does something to my brain that just makes me feel like I’m floating. If you know more songs like this one, please drop them in the comments below.
I discovered this song on TikTok (rip Tiktok). The artist does really interesting angular computer-generated visualizations around her videos of her performing these songs with a drum pad and a guitar. It’s very enchanting and I hope they don’t get lost forever in the ban.
Currently trending in my brain: L.A. mutual aid, Honey Stinger Orange Blossom chews, energy efficient ceramic heaters, mohair scrunchies, daily paper to-do lists, going on walks in my neighborhood, Squirrel Balm, collaging, making breakfast for my friends, out of pocket perfume notes (ie sweat, basement, etc), writing down a list of ongoing projects, wax stamps for letters, Glossier You hand cream, library books, OUAI detox shampoo, the moon in the sky when you wake up in the morning.
Can someone remind me how we can find direct access to Amaya’s playlists as a monthly subscriber?
